Nationwide, there is a focus on American Craft thanks to the American Craft Week initiative taking place October 1 -10, 2010. CURVE is participating in a number of ways… Pattiy Torno hopes to be laying out a quilt during this ten days. All the CURVE artists will be showcasing their new work. Sutherland Handweaving will be hosting master rug weaver, Wence Martinez Friday October 8th, 6 to 9pm, for a slide show/lecture/reception/truck show and October 9 & 10th from noon to 3pm for a meet and greet. CURVE studios & garden hours are 11 to 4pm everyday!!

WRAL-TV’s Richard Adkins toured the Asheville RAD with CURVE studios & garden owner, Pattiy Torno a few weeks back for a feature in WRAL’s summer travel series, “Nooks & Crannies”. Visits to Cloth Fiber Workshop, Studio C Glass’ Robert Gardner & Jonas Gerard Fine Art as well as CURVE provide the content for “Asheville Flows with Artistic Talent”. Thanks RAD (Richard ADkins…kismet, eh?) for a great day and for sharing a sweet peek @ the Asheville RAD.

Jewelry designers & QVC-TV hosts Carolyn & Bill Pollack stopped in @ CURVE while filming their “Summer Across America” destination series this July. They had a look at the work of Karen Donde of sutherland Handweaving, talked with Pattiy Torno about her extraordinary quilts & explored the wonderful world of encaustic painting with Constance Williams. Carolyn & Bill were lovely to have in the studios and even went home with a series of 6 “jewel box” encaustic studies by Constance. The fruits of their visit will air on QVC-TV starting August 8, 2010.

There is a lovely article in the May 2010 Charleston Magazine written by Sandy Lang with photos by Peter Frank Edwards loving on Asheville’s River Arts District. “On the Road: Asheville, North Carolina: Arts Collective: Exploring the hands-on creative vibe of Asheville”. It has a wonderful photo of Barb Butler @ work on her loom and Pattiy Torno piecing “Big Blue River”. Sandy & Peter were such a pleasure to have in the studio, that feeling flows from every pore of this article. Thanks you two!
