You can find Jenny Mastin @ Western Piedmont Community College, Morganton, NC this spring, teaching “ANIMAL SCULPTURE” Feb. 25 - April 1, 2010. This class will introduce a variety of approaches to animal sculpture and explore the realms of realism, anthropomorphism, function and fantasy. Also, Jenny will teach “TALKING HEADS” April 8 - May 13, 2010. This class explores various approaches to modeling the head. Focus will be on proportion and features that convey emotion. March 8, 4 pm-6 pm & March 26, 10 am-noon: Web Chats AT sutherland©. Area weavers are invited into the studio for more face-to-face social networking, sharing ideas, troubleshooting problems and discussing current issues in modern handweaving. Non-weavers welcome. Free, but please register in advance.
March 14-May 9, noon-4 pm: Weaving I: Three Warps, Three Towels. Another session of this popular in-depth introduction to weaving continues over eight consecutive Sundays (excluding April 4). The class guides students through planning, warping and weaving three separate projects on three different short warps. Designs will progress in complexity. For beginners or weavers who need a warping refresher. $275, plus yarn. Instructor: Karen Donde.
March 18-April 15, 5 pm-8 pm: Weave a Twill Gamp. Students who have completed Weaving I, or have basic weaving experience, can explore four different twill patterns by weaving a gamp or sampler. Students will review good warping and weaving techniques and will learn how to thread different patterns and vary treadling to weave different but related fabrics. Five consecutive Thursdays. $180/person, plus yarn. Instructor: Karen Donde.
