bringing people to art & art to life in asheville's river arts district • open everyday

There is a nice article in the December Laurel of Asheville speaking to EVERYDAY nature of Asheville’s River Arts District. I sense the handiwork of Greg Vineyard & Constance Williams here, spreading the word that The River Arts District is not just the Studio Stroll any more! Many of the studios are open 6 or 7 days a week and we are all great places to shop for a local christmas!

CURVE studios & garden is humming with energy and harvesting lovely fruit from a bountiful summer of work. Already preparing for the coming holiday season, the 20 studio artists will pause to celebrate their continued success during the CURVE studios & garden Fall 2010 Open House Weekend Sept. 24-26, with a Twilight Party Friday, Sept. 24. CURVE Open house hours are 11 am-8 pm Friday and 11 am-5 pm Saturday and Sunday. The twilight party begins at 5 pm Friday and features a Mediterranean-themed feast, wine, Wedge beer and music. Cloth Fiber Workshop’s Barbara Zaretsky will showcase class offerings for those interested in learning textile surface design techniques along with her production line of hand-dyed silk pillows, table runners, scarves & wearables. Marty & Eileen Black, who had the good sense to purchase Cotton Mill Studios in 2002 to make a home for The Potter’s Mark, their pottery and retail gallery anchor this rich and eclectic cultural center.
Stalwartly brick, with high ceilings, steel beams and industrial sized windows, each studio has a unique flavor. Do not miss the new Mill Gallery upstairs, an informal exhibition space for paintings and 2D pieces .

Jewelry designers & QVC-TV hosts Carolyn & Bill Pollack stopped in @ CURVE while filming their “Summer Across America” destination series this July. They had a look at the work of Karen Donde of sutherland Handweaving, talked with Pattiy Torno about her extraordinary quilts & explored the wonderful world of encaustic painting with Constance Williams. Carolyn & Bill were lovely to have in the studios and even went home with a series of 6 “jewel box” encaustic studies by Constance. The fruits of their visit will air on QVC-TV starting August 8, 2010.

Bill & Carolyn & Constance & the film crew having the after popsicle… it was a hot day!
